Burger King Adds New Low-Calorie French Fries to their Menu

Burger King has added a new item to their menu. This item is a low-calorie french fry. Burger King has really fell behind in sales to their arch rivals McDonald's and Wendy's during the last five years, and have been adding new items to try to compete with them. “You have to give people what they want.” says Eric Hirschhorn, chief marketing officer for Burger King. French fries have always had a bad reputation for being unhealthy, but it seems Burger King is trying to change people's opinions about the french fry. These new fries will have forty percent less fat and thirty percent fewer calories than the fries sold by McDonald's. These new fries will be crinkled, so that the Burger King employees can tell the difference between the low-calorie fries and the original fries. “On its own, this may seem like a small step,” Mr. Hirschhorn said. “But we think it can add up to something big.”
I think that Burger King is just trying to lure people into their restaurants anyway they can. Burger King has gone downhill during the past few years, and they are trying anything to get more customers.

A low-calorie french fry just seems like a gimmick to me. It will not be around for very long because although it is low-calorie, people who really want to be healthy will always opt for the fruit and vegetables than the low-calorie french fry. I'm not really sure who Burger King's intended audience is with this product. This idea just seems plain dumb to me. There will never be such a thing as a “healthy” french fry.
