Melisa: Obama Works to Reduce Greenhouse Gases

President Obama’s first election campaign stated, that his party would focus on depleting the amount of carbon dioxide into the environment to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases causing global climate change. A plan that began to form in April of 2012 was released on friday, September 20th. Obama’s proposal is to limit the carbon emissions created by power plants on all new plants built in the United States. Currently power plants are releasing 1,800 lb of carbon dioxide emissions per megawatt hour, and the proposal for new power plants is to limit this to 1,000 lb per hour (BBC). By fall of 2014 said proposal is to take effect. The opposers of the proposal are mostly industrial groups and congressional republicans, who argue that to install new carbon capture technology is too expensive.
I believe the proposal is a brilliant thing. I would love to see the amount of carbon emissions reduce over the next several years. Although not stated in the article, I believe even more can be done to help save the human population from ourselves. These steps include changing from coal production to a environmentally friendly substitute, like solar or wind energy. I understand that to put these rules into place will cost a substantial amount of money to begin with, but in the end which is more favorable, wealth, or life on earth?
