Are you sick of paying for parking? Well if you don't mind giving out your chestnuts you can definitely find a spot in the English cities of Leeds and Manchester. But its not just any kind of nut, they're the dark brown seeds that fall from chestnut trees, and they were given the nickname "conkers". So far they've collected 1,500 nuts at staffed parking lots because the nuts might clog the machines if people attempt to pay at automatic parking lots. The company that started this is running a campaign called "Bonkers for Conkers" that is raising awareness about the harm of carbon emissions from automobiles. The organization still hasn't done anything with the nuts........
If giving out some chestnuts could get me a parking spot, I would go to the nearest grocery store and stock up ASAP. I don't exactly understand the logic behind this organization. I get that they're addressing the carbon emission issue......but what are the going to do with thousands of nuts?! I was extremely intrigued by this article to begin with and now all I want to know is whats going to happen with the chestnuts?!
It might be intriguing to think about the cultural differences surrounding this particular campaign; the language alone signifies difference (for North Americans). Is the word "conkers" explained in the British news? You didn't place the link to your article. Don't forget next time!
