Nate: Control Room Response

To think that the American Media shows all sides to a story is to be unwise. It is clear that they don’t show the whole story, and this is highlighted in the documentary on Aljazeera. American media is beyond censored, and we are blinded by what is really happening throughout the world. In the film, Aljazeera showcased what is really happening in our war in Iraq.
Although the American media shows the death tolls of U.S. soldiers, never before has the public been shown the images of true wars, those who are so disturbing that they are burnt into your mind for a lifetime. Never have people in the Untied Sates been shown the casualties of U.S. soldiers. That is not how our media works. But we do show what has happened to our enemies. And I think that is why we think we are unstoppable, why the world thinks America is unbeatable. Because we don’t showcase our weaknesses, and we never lose. And if we do lose, we fight back harder.
And to a point, I think that is why Americans on a whole have a completely misconstrued view of the world. We think that it doesn’t really matter that hundreds of our soldiers have died in Iraq, that is, until we see the pictures. And we see men dressed in that oh so familiar military camo and realize, our soldiers are dying. I think Americans get so caught up in the fact of whether we are winning or not that we don’t put the people who are keeping us safe and free into the picture. We don’t associate those who protect us with those who die for us because we only ever see pictures of the protection.

Maybe the media knows better, though. They should censor us. We shouldn’t really know what is going on over there. Its only the spouses, siblings, parents, and friends of the average American fighting for us. We shouldn’t know what’s going on. It’s for the best.
