I found the video, Control Room to be extremely eye-opening. It is unreal to be able to see the difference of what we hear and see on a regular basis and what we see from that video. We have to be open and conscious to the other side of the story. I feel as a community, we are completely sheltered from the gruesome sights and facts that are really happening. We hear about it but we never actually are shown the millions of people dead in horrible ways. Although it is nice to be sheltered in some ways, I believe it is completely necessary for us to be aware what is going on in the world, on the other side.
I also found the set of questions/survey activity we did in class to be extremely eye-opening as well, but in a different way. Although we are not visually watching the differences between our country and others, we are able to get a strong sense of how lucky we really are. Most of us kept answering the questions with a +1, yes our parents finished high school, yes we attend college, yes we have health insurance, and the list goes on. In other countries, these things are a rare privilege to people. We just expect our country and our parents to provide these things to us. I don't think we realize how truly lucky we really are. Often we take things like our parents' education, our parents' careers, health insurance, life insurance, etc. for granted. We expect these things to be provided for us where in other parts of the world people would die for some of these things. I felt this activity to be very eye-opening and helpful.
