Karrie Brown is a seventeen year old girl with down syndrome whose
dream of being a model is finally coming true. Ever since she was a little
girl, she had wanted to be a model. Her favorite store is Wet Seal, so everyday
her mom would take pictures of her in her favorite Wet Seal outfit. Her mom,
Sue decided to make a facebook page to try to get the company’s attention. She
posted pictures of Karrie in the company’s clothes and talked about her dreams
of being a model. It didn’t take long for the corporates at Wet Seal to notice
the page, and the company fell in love with Karrie. They gave her an all-expense
paid trip to Los Angeles to have a photo shoot and model their clothes. They
also paid for her and her mother to have a day in Disneyland. Company
executives said Karrie was a natural in front of the camera and she was dancing
and laughing the whole time. She was so happy and excited to have the
experience, and her mom said that her next goal is to meet and dance with Ellen
DeGeneres.
I
absolutely loved this article. I volunteer with kids with special needs, so I always love reading and hearing things like this. The simplest things make these kids so happy and I think that it is great that a company as big
as Wet Seal was able to give back and make a girl’s dream come true. It is
really admirable that people in the company took enough time to notice their
customers and put them first. Most large corporations are only interested in
making money, and giving back to their customers isn’t a top priority. Stories
like this are always nice to hear because they remind you of the good in the world.
Karrie’s day was made, and all of the people that worked with her that day were
inspired and touched by her enthusiasm and happiness.
This is an awesome article! It's endearing to see a name brand company allow a girl to have an opportunity as special as it was. It gave me faith that there are people who have hearts and are not consumed with looks but rather the person on the inside. It would be cool if other companies did something like this and featured everyday/ typical people rather than models.
