After watching this video, I really
was very surprised. First of all, I had no idea that most of that was going on
in all of those foreign countries; I believe that that shows just how little
the Americans have seen through TV news. I find it very shocking that the
foreign countries felt it was so normal to show those gruesome pictures and
videos. Many of them were heartbreaking to see. I find it interesting, however,
that they believe it is completely normal and relevant to show those images on
national news as opposed to Americans, who find it shocking. It is just so
interesting how different the two countries are when they show their people what
is going on.
I
also found it very confusing at times. When we were watching the news from Aljazeera,
they were continuously saying how the Americans were lying about so many
different things; but whenever the Americans got their chance to speak, they
were saying how the Iraqis were lying. It just makes me question who to
believe. Whoever is lying, why are they doing it? It is just so interesting as
to how different each country is.
I
recall one of the American lieutenants saying during the documentary how he
really wishes that this could be a war-free world, but that is just not going
to happen anytime soon. I know that I am very naïve and really have absolutely
no idea what some of the issues are going on in the world, but if each and
every country wishes that they could live in a peaceful, war-free world, why
can’t we take steps to work toward that future? I feel like each news station
is trying to put the blame on someone else just to prove that they are better.
Watching this documentary was the first time that I have really paid attention
to a foreign news station; and by paying close attention and comparing it to
that of the United States, it really is a shock to see all of the differences
culturally.
