"A Silent Hurricane Season..."

Many people in the US wonder,
"when will they be here?"
Hurricane season is not over,
but we have yet to see one this year.

Is it because of global warming?
Or will that make storms stronger?
The entire US sits and waits,
but we can't just wait much longer.

Am I the only one to worry
as I recall Hurricane Sandy?
She stopped by in late October
to leave us with despair and damage.

But we made it through.
A silent hurricane season
will soon be awakened.
And we will be ready.

  1. Katie,
I really like this poem. It's about something not yet having come. It's about waiting. Remembering. It's beautiful and haunting. I also really like how you refer to the hurricane as a "she"--and "she" is: she's Sandy... Are all hurricanes women?
