TITLE: Making Peace with the Earth: Climate Wars and Climate Peace
DATE OF PUBLICATION: 2012
PUBLISHER:

TONE, SYNTAX, LANGUAGE:
The excerpt from Making Peace with Earth is an informative piece, with well-written information and evidence of the Earth’s changing climate. Shiva appears to be a well-educated author with many cultural perspectives.
INTENDED AUDIENCE:
Vandana Shiva may have intended this book to be read by a variety of audiences. It could be for skeptics, in which she hopes to persuade them of the ever-changing climates of the world. Also, it may serve the purpose of an educational literary work.
CONTEXT:
The chapter is partly about how the governments of the world have failed in their efforts of safeguarding the planet’s environment and climate, despite coming together in massive numbers at conferences such as the UN Climate Summit, which took place in Copenhagen in 2009. Shiva offers a more political view of climate change, which is a unique perspective. Shiva conducted research in various parts of the world, including the Himalaya Mountains. She studied the Himalayas because they are greatly overlooked despite having an impact on the greatest number of people. The chapter stresses a great importance on the Himalayas because they are disregarded in the grand scheme of the world’s melting glaciers, which mainly centers on the melting snow in the Arctic and Antarctic.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of Making Peace with the Earth is to emphasize the importance of protecting our environment, both on a local level as well as a global one.
AUTHOR’S PROCESS:
Vandana Shiva conducted research around the world as evidence that the Earth’s climates are dangerously changing at a rapid pace. In the excerpt, “Climate Wars and Climate Peace” , Shiva’s research began at the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen in 2009. She also researched the climate change in the third pole as well as the water crisis in the Himalayas.
