Lexie Way- shooting in Chicago

Late Thursday night, a mass shooting occurred at Cornell Square Park in Chicago, leaving 13 people in critical condition. A 3-year old boy was among many of the people shot in the massacre, leaving him in critical condition, which returned the spotlight to gun violence in Chicago since the city has the highest number of homicides. After the incident in Chicago where a 15-year old was shot in early January, Obama decided to make stricter laws for his hometown. Officer Ron Gaines of the Chicago Police Department believes Thursday nights shooting was gang related, where they shot the 3-year old right in the ear. The other victims in the Chicago shooting were two 15-year olds, with the remainder between ages 21 to 41. So far, the police have no suspects in custody. Out of every city in America, Chicago is suspected to be the city with the highest homicide results.

I chose this article because most of my family lives in Chicago, and I love the city. It’s crazy to go this beautiful city multiple times and know there is so much crime going on. I think something should be done to help the city of its crime rate, because it obviously does not have strict enough laws. Innocent people shouldn’t be in this sort of condition because of the shootings that occur in Chicago.

  1. Lexie,
I saw a really tremendous documentary "The Interrupters" about violence in Chicago and what some people are trying to do about. See it, if you haven't!
