Modern Day Cannibalism
Cannibalism has been around for hundreds of years and is
portrayed in many movies in our culture. Mental insanity must be a factor for
someone to eat the flesh of another human being. It’s so disturbing and gross
to even think about. In the case of
40-year-old Geoffrey Portway, as a supporter of cannibalism, he planned to
kidnap, rape and eventually eat children. How vile?
The house of horrors
in which Portway lived included his own personal dungeon. The soundproof
basement was equipped with a metal cage and child-sized coffin. Butcher knives,
castration tools, bondage equipment and thousands of images of child pornography
are just some of the evidence investigators discovered in the home. “Fat
Longpig” as Portway is called in his online chats, pleaded guilty to
distribution and possession of child pornography and solicitation to commit a
crime of violence.
The troubled Portway grew up with divorced parents and
admits he is homosexual. His ideas of cannibalism originated from his
fascination with the children’s tale of Hansel and Gretel, in which children
are caged and fattened so a witch can eat them. His fascination with the tale
grew into an obsession. It appears as though he would have executed his plan if
he wasn’t caught, but one cannot know because he has never harmed a child thus
far. Just the thought and premeditation of kidnapping, raping and eating
children is enough for Portway to be persecuted.
This type of news headline is disturbing and appalling yet
interesting to me. I can’t imagine how mentally unstable Portway must be to
plane such a heinous crime against innocent children. There are sick people in
this world who use children as their personal sex slaves, and that is what this
man planned to do before he ate the flesh of his youthful victims. Honestly, Geoffey
Portay should be jailed for the rest of his natural life because he is a sexual
predator targeting children. Although he has only been charged with pornography
possession, what will stop he from kidnapping, raping an eating a child when he
is released from prison in 21 years?
