Running out of Antibiotics. Luke Reno

It looks like the planet and society is screwed over. Again. A recent study from the Center for Disease Control is saying that antibiotics are in danger of not curing us, at all. Viruses are developing resistance to antibiotics, and to make matters worse, there are only a limited number of antibiotics in existence. That means we humans are going to be getting sicker, more often, and potentially dying more rapidly from these diseases. From a totally Darwinistic standpoint, this is a good thing. The world is overpopulated with humans and with no natural predators; we are left with disease and our own stupidity and folly to kill us off. This will certainly pick up the pace.

However, I would like to not see humans dying out in droves. I don’t want to be one of those. SO! The CDC has laid out criteria of disease that are spreading most rapidly (a strain of gonorrhea amongst them) and it’s some pretty scary stuff. So far, so good, the USA isn’t going to collapse and crumble in on itself (yet) and for once, there are some solutions! That’s always nice to hear about. Interestingly enough, agriculture is where these viruses are developing immunizations, but the article doesn’t really elaborate.

Medicine, in my opinion, is one of the last frontiers of science, and it really shows in this article. These doctors and scientists are literally running this thing on trial and error, trying to race the clock before we all die of some horrible strain on gonorrhea or worse. Truly fascinating stuff.
