Charles
Veley has traveled to 829 countries.
Charles is part of a Traveler’s Century Club. There is a minimum of 100
country stamps on a person’s passport.
The club was formed in 1954. It has had multiple changes since then.
Today it has 2,000 members. The competition is intense for crown the most
traveled individual. Guinness World Record took this category out of their
books because it was getting to difficult to keep up with.
Charles was
the youngest person to travel to 321 countries on the Century’s Club List by
the age of 37. A man named John Clause held his title of the “world’s most
traveled man” for a decade. He sacrificed a lot to keep his title. He passed
away in 2008. Other avid travelers claim they have seen more then Veley. Although
it is an impressive fact is it really worth it? Some people argue whether
traveling to this extent is even logical.
My opinion: I
think this article was interesting but I don’t think I could spend my life
traveling to over 800 countries. I like spending at least a week wherever I go
on vacation. If I was constantly traveling and was trying to obtain that goal
it would literally consume my life. There wouldn’t be time for things like
family. I couldn’t have the constant change all the time.
You might do some research and see if reporters in any of the places Veley traveled reported on him and compare the way they report about him.
