This article states how on Saturday, September 14th, Pennsylvania reported the first death due to the West Nile virus. There have been a few other reports of the virus around the state, but none of the others have resulted in a fatality.
This virus is transmitted from infected birds to mosquitoes, and from mosquitoes to humans. Ultimately, this virus could lead to severe inflammation of the brain. The main victims of this virus include the elderly and those with weak immune systems.
This article interested me because it poses a lot of questions in my mind. Why is this virus so rare? Is there a cure? Why does it target older people? What are the symptoms? It makes me curious as to what this virus really is and what people can do to prevent becoming infected.
I also really liked this article because it really peaks my interest. I am very interested with the body, how it reacts to foreign invaders and how it works to fix its issues.
