Jersey Shore gets hit
again

After 10
months of restoration, Seaside Heights experienced more devastation to the
area. The fire almost consumed 6 blocks of the Seaside Park boardwalk and the
fire reached two blocks of Seaside Heights. The causes of the fire are still
unknown. There were firefighters from 30 different towns that came out. There
was a convention for firefighters in Wildwood (about 90 miles away) at the time
so many volunteers were able to respond.
To prevent
the fire from spreading to the streets, firefighters dug a 20-foot trench so
the flames wouldn’t spread. They began to get water from the Barnegat Bay to
try to extinguish the flames. After seeing the damages the estimated cost to
restore the boardwalk will be millions. Town officials plan to help local
businesses get back on track during the restoration. Governor Christie was disturbed at the events
at Seaside. He stated, “I feel like I want to throw up.”
Even after
the fire on Thursday about 100 firefighters on Friday were cleaning up and
watching hotspots from the fire.
Coming from
the Jersey Shore it was hard news to hear because it seemed like things were
finally coming together. The pictures alone were so sad to look at. Hopefully the Jersey Shore will be back to
normalcy by next summer.
This is so sad to hear. It seems like they almost can't catch a break! Hopefully the repairs won't take too long and things will be back to normal ASAP!
ReplyDeletethe most interesting part of this article was Governor Christie's quote. Throughout the whole process of hurricane sandy, the governor was very strong and supportive, but with these disasters happening one after the other it shows that it's affecting him just as much as it is to the people of New Jersey.
