Dog Found

An eight week old puppy was found outside in scorching heat with a chain weighing almost double the weight of the puppy around his neck. This is standard procedure for a dog in training to become a fighting dog. A total of 371 dogs were found in the southern states of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Texas. This puppy did not even have a name. It was referred to by a number like most fighting dogs are. Luckily this puppy was found before too much harm was done to him.

All of the dogs that were found were taken in by the ASPCA for the time being. Here, they will do whatever they can to get these dogs back to normal. They start by taking care of the physical damage, inside and out. Curing any infections like worms, and taking care of any cuts or broken bones. The hardest part comes next, fixing them mentally. All of the dogs are terrified of humans because of what they were put through, so trying to calm them down is extremely difficult. But they aren't just afraid of humans, they are afraid of almost everything, For example, in the article it mentions that one of the dogs did not even know how to react to a water bowl. Also one of the dogs is always so scared that he will sit in the back of his cage with his ears perched and his body trembling.

All of this is just awful to imagine. It is so hard to understand how someone could do this to such a helpless and sweet animal, or any animal. I chose this article because I could never imagine hurting my dog in any way ever and it makes me sad to think about it.
