Floods
cascaded through the state of Colorado on Sunday, evacuating over one thousand
people, and leaving about 500 missing. According to authorities, the floods
have destroyed 1,502 homes and damaged over 17,000. Also, they have pronounced
six people dead so far, with many more still missing. Four of the six deaths
included a man and a woman, both 19, who were taken by the water after getting
out of their car in Boulder County. Apparently, the woman left the car first,
and the man jumped out to try to save her. Two other bodies were found lying on
the side of a road, with the other in a collapsed home.
As
of now, the roads are gone, houses are demolished, and rescuers are still
searching for people that were not accounted for. However, the town has gotten
together to restore their homes and return items they have been finding. Seemingly,
it is estimated that $150 million will be needed to fix up the roads and bridges
that were destroyed in Boulder County. To help regain control of the county,
President Barrack Obama signed a major disaster declaration and ordered federal
aid to enhance state and local recovery efforts.
