I chose this story out of the news paper then found the article online. I chose this article for a few reasons. One reason was in a world filled with death and negative news, I found this to be very positive. This man is homeless and most likely has nothing. Yet, he found a backpack with a little over 42,000 dollars in it and returns every cent. I find that very admirable. Another reason I chose the article was because it struck out to me how small it was. It is about 2 sentences long, buried on the 4th page in the margins. This is an incredible story and I found it by happenstance. To add to that, I couldn't find it on the Inquirer's website. I had to Google the exact title, copy an paste the article. It strikes me as odd that something so commendable is so hard to find, but a story about escalators can make the front page. To me, that is ridiculous. I really liked this extremely short article and find it upsetting that a reputable newspaper that has won 19 Pulitzer Prizes, as it so advertises, would rather print about escalators than a homeless man returning over 42,000 dollars.
The title of this blog completely caught my eye! Who would have thought that someone who can barely get by would give back not only that amount of money but every cent of it. That is something truly commendable and deserves to be on the front page. It just goes to show that there are people out there who are very caring and unselfish. Great article!
