Limits set on emissions for new power plants- Tommy Arena

President Obama pledged to address climate change in June.  He is working with the EPA to propose limits on power plant greenhouse gas emissions.
Within the next week the EPA will propose limits on greenhouse gas emissions from newly built power plants.  These will be the first ever limits placed on power plant pollution.  Experts say that it almost certain to face a court challenge.  Operators of coal-fired power plants believe that these new limits could cause their plants to become unprofitable and few plants will be built in the future.  The details of this proposal are confidential but some believe that emissions allowed will differ between the source of the power plants.  Coal fired plants will be allowed to emit more than natural gas powered plants.  The methods that lower the amount of carbon emitted into the atmosphere may not be economically feasible for power plant owners.

There are solid arguments for both sides of this issue.  Climate change needs to be addressed but new laws could lower overall production.

  1. Tommy,
I like your summary of this article. Maybe this won't be such a bad thing. It could lead to power producing companies to try to find a more effective and environmentally friendly solution to creating energy. I'm glad the problem is being addressed.
