A
group of male students at Ohio State University decided to lease a house not
far from main campus. However, they did not know that they were living with “another
roommate”. It turned out that an unknown man was residing in their basement. The
students would find their cupboard, oven, and microwave door open with no
reasoning. Therefore, the tenants figured maybe it was supernatural activity. The
students decided to check their house for anything that might be alarming and
what they come across was absolutely nothing that were expecting. In their
basement, the students discovered a locked door where they would hear “weird
noises like dings and alarms” coming from it. It was not until the maintenance
workers broke down the door that they found out what exactly was behind the
mysterious door. Not only did they enter where the noises have been coming
from, but they entered into someone’s home. Behind this door, “they found a
bedroom complete with framed photographs and textbooks.”
The
room happened to be the home of a fellow Ohio State University student, Jeremy.
He wasn’t home at the time of the discovery but was immediately evicted and
able to gather his belongings. One tenant explained, “It potentially could have been extremely dangerous given
that some random guy had a key to our house and was just living in our house
without anyone knowing.” The students are also thinking about taking judicial action
upon the leasing company. Another student
told sources , "They hadn't changed the locks from the year before, and
the keys don't say 'do not duplicate.' There could be hundreds of people with
keys to the house." An experience of a lifetime turned into one of a
disaster.
I chose this article because the
title caught my attention right away. Who wants to find a secret roommate
living in your home? It is simply out of one’s mind to think another human
being is living under the same roof unknowingly. I also chose this article
because any college student can relate to this. Everyone is going to have to
undergo the process of looking for another place to reside whether it is on or
off campus. Many college students here have off-campus housing and to think it
could happen to me is horrifying. This article gives off a very informative message:
Make sure you check out the whole house before renting/buying.
