Saturday evening in Times
Square, two relatively new police officers shot two innocent bystanders while
trying to subdue a person of interest.
Two police officers who
had been on the force for a year and a half, and 3 years were confronted by an
agitated man Saturday evening. The man
mimicked shooting the police officers, then one officer fired one shot and the
other fired two. The suspicious man was
not wounded, but two innocent bystanders were.
A 54 year old woman for Manhattan was shot in the leg, fracturing her
tibia and fibula. And another woman was grazed on her buttock.
People are saying that
Glenn Broadnax, the suspicious man was walking into the intersections, apparently
trying to get hit by a car. He was hit by three different cars. That is when
the police intervened. Apparently, everyone
who witnessed the shooting was rather confused as to why the police were even
shooting at the man. One person even
said “Don’t shoot him no more.” The woman
who was shot in the leg has to undergo surgery.
I chose this article
because it was just so shocking to me.
From a young age, we are taught that police officers are the good guys,
and that they are here to protect us. From
what I could tell, the police officers had no reason to be shooting at that
man. And the fact that they don’t have
well enough aim to actually hit their target is unsettling. They should have undergone significant
training in order to perfect their aim. Hopefully, the two women are okay and
thee two police officers are reprimanded for their actions.

ReplyDeleteHi Sabrina,
ReplyDeleteI wrote generally about the same topic. Doesn't it make you question what the standards they have to achieve upon graduating? It is sad to know that the trust we have built in the police is questionable. I loved your concluding paragraph. I think you voiced your opinions very well!
