E-Cigs

The electronic cigarette has recently become a very popular alternative for smoking.  It is supposedly much healthier but gives the same feeling as smoking an actual cigarette. The “e-cig”, as it is commonly referred to as, does not contain any of the 4,000 harmful toxins that normal cigarettes do. It only contains the nicotine, which the article mentions is equally as harmful as caffeine to the body, so there is no chance for it to cause cancer. Many of the other alternatives did not give smokers the actual feel of smoking, like the gum or patch so they were not as effective. Most people also so like that they can basically use the e-cig anywhere from restaurants to the work place. Many scientists have researched and done tests on the e-cig to make sure they really are what they say they are and all tests have come out to say that, yes they are not nearly as harmful to the body as cigarettes.

Cigarettes have been a disgusting fad for a long time. When they first came out it was the “cool” thing to do at social events and in higher society. Now people do it for the social aspect, and just for fun or to relieve stress.  Technology  has come such a long way, that now we can protect people from developing lung cancer but still give people the “cool feeling” that they want.  I found this article to be very interesting and many people can relate to this because they either smoke themselves or know someone who smokes.

This article was advertised on the NBC news page. It mostly contained facts and statistics and there wasn’t much room for opinion. Since there wasn’t much opinion that also didn’t leave room for much bias in the article. Over all it was a well written article and it easily caught my attention.

  1. Zowie,
Someone else posted on these cigs. I just know that you can still develop artery-damage from nicotine. I wonder if you might not be able to find incriminating information on the dangers of nicotine inhalation.
