Typhoon Kills Three People in China

The most powerful storm in the world this year hit Southern China today. The storm reached speeds of 165 km/hr. This storm killed three people in China. Two were killed by a falling tree and one was killed by falling glass. Moreover, the storm killed two people in the Philippines as well. The storm also has caused over 50,000 fishing boats to be docked for the time being.
Something that shouldn't be overlooked is the fact that the port in Hong Kong was shut down in anticipation for the storm to hit the city. However, it did not. This story is so important because of the fact that it didn't hit the port in Hong Kong. Had the port been hit, and the city for that matter, a huge portion of the world's economy would be affected, as well as many people's lives being affected forever. Although this story was sad to begin with, it can be looked at on the brighter side - this storm was the most powerful in the world this year; it could have toppled the economy in China and much of the world. Although it is sad, it is a very bittersweet thought.

  1. Nate,
Interesting article. You know when I grew up such storms were so rare. Now they seem to happen much more often.
