Last night (Sept. 22nd,
2013), the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards took place. Many expected ‘Breaking Bad’ to take a
majority of the awards they were nominated for, but, at first, that was not the
case. For example, Bryan Cranston, who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor
in a Drama, lost to "The Newsroom's" Jeff Daniels. Cranston’s Co-star
Aaron Paul, who could have won Supporting Actor in a Drama, ended up losing to
"Boardwalk Empire's" Bobby Cannavale. However, their losses were
short-lived because when the big prize, Oustanding Drama, was announced, ‘Breaking Bad’ came out
on top. Creator, Vince Gilligan was pleasantly astounded at the honor and
accepted the award.
This year’s Emmys were ones for the history
books as the ‘usual crowd’ such as Jim Parsons (Lead Actor in a Comedy) and
Modern Family (4th straight Outstanding Comedy) took home wins. But
it was shows like ‘Veep’, ‘The Big C’, and even “The Voice’ taking home awards
over the ‘usual crowd’ that made Emmy history.
Since I’m not much of a ‘Breaking Bad’ fan,
I didn’t find that aspect of the Emmys as interesting. But I love my television
so the overall event was interesting to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed the sketch
done by Neil Patrick Harris along with previous Emmy hosts in the very
beginning of the evening. My family and I were all in stitches by the end of
the sketch.
