I found the control room to be very eye opening. Before watching this I have never heard of Al jazeera, but now that I have learned some about it, it definitely seems to make sense. Of course what they show on their news is going to be completely different then what we show because it is a different type of audience. During the war, we were in their country, invading their homes, and killing their people, so they want to show their people how bad the US is so their people have sympathy and as a country come together to hate the US. They would not want to show how they are hurting the US because they want to seem like the victim and Al jazeera does a great job of portraying that.
I agree with the man who said that when he looked at all of their people dying and suffering it did not affect him as much as looking at our people. I do not think that there is anything wrong with that because it is obvious that if you see innocent people dying from your own country it is going to affect you in many ways. But personally, I think the difference between the US and Iraq is that when we see their people dying we do have some sympathy but we see it as; its war so people are going to die. But, when people in Iraq see our people dying, like 911, they have a different reaction. It seems that they celebrate and have no sympathy at all because they don't really know what is going on. They think the US is all bad and that Iraq is just defending themselves. Their news doesn't allow them to have sympathy for the US at all because it teaches them to hate us.
As a result, I think that it is normal to have different views of the news in different parts of the world. But I think that if the news wants to get their viewers to formulate some kind of opinion that they should show more than one side of a situation. The Control room really showed how much people invest in the news and how it can brainwash a person into believing certain things.
