Hitchhiking by Private Jet

Amanda Nolan is an American travel blogger who has been all over the world, but realized that she hasn’t been to many of the states in her home country. She was very interested in learning about the differences of all the states, so she made it her goal to travel to each of the fifty US states. Trips like this could cost a lot of money in gas and airfare since there is large travel distance between many of the states, so Nolan decided to make her journey cheap, efficient, and unique. She decided that she was going to hitchhike across country in private jets. She would make phone calls, wait in air ports, and put ads on the internet to find people that were traveling in the same direction as her, and she would ask if she could tag along with them in their planes. This journey has not been easy for her. She would sometimes wait in airports for days to find someone traveling her way, and she was faced with rejection many times. Since she wasn’t working, she had run out of money a few times and had to take temporary jobs in the different cities she was visiting. She began her journey in July 2012 and now has only eight states left to visit.

            I chose this article because I feel like so many Americans talk about wanting to travel the world without realizing that there is so much to see right around them here in the US. I think it would be so cool to be able to visit all fifty states, but this article shows that it is a lot more difficult than you might think. Even if you were to travel by car, trips like this would take a lot of time, money, and planning, so doing it by private jet makes it all the more difficult. I admire Nolan for setting a goal and doing her best to fulfill it. I hope she is able to finish her journey and inspire others to start journeys of their own.
